Shirmenia Nunes

SHIRMENIA NUNES is the Coordinator for the Global Village. She joined the CCC’s team in April 2018. The scope of her experience includes higher education issues, faculty evaluation and academic performance, and international relations. Prior to joining Kennesaw State University, she served as the Educational Advisor for two Brazilian Career Diplomats in Mission at the Consulate of Brazil in Atlanta. Her background from working with universities abroad, international business organizations and government entities helped her to build skills to focus on university and international students’ accounts.  
 
The key strengths that she possess are her multi-cultural background from visiting and living in several countries such as Brazil, The Netherlands, and the United States. During her year abroad, she worked as the event planner for a Non-Profit designed to promote a safe space for expats and to help internationals living in Eindhoven, Holland. For the Atlanta’s International community scenario, she was appointed event organizer for the Portuguese Language Club in Atlanta, and a member of the Atlanta – Rio Sister Cities Committee. 
 
Ms. Nunes, originally from Brazil, earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte in 2011. When she moved to the United States, she joined the Professional Master’s Program of Public Administration at KSU.  During her years as a Graduate Student at KSU, she volunteered at Tapestri, a NGO dedicated to ending domestic violence in refugee and immigrant communities, using culturally competent and appropriate methods to help victims. She also taught Portuguese as a second language for KSU students. Once she graduated from KSU in 2014, she worked for the Brazilian Ministry of External Relations (Itamaraty) for four years where she created and planed programs to support over 1,500 Brazilian college students through the Brazilian Scientific Mobility Program in the U.S. Southeast region.  
 
She enjoys seeing new places, trying food from all around the world, and exploring new ideas and experiences.
